Unique Abu Dhabi racing finale awaits Petr

Rising star Petr Ptacek will bring his rookie Formula Renault Eurocup season to a close this weekend (24-26 October) as he tackles a pair of races at the spectacular Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

The Czech driver, who celebrated his 17th birthday last week, travels to the Middle East fresh from a pair of point-scoring finishes at a rain-lashed Hockenheim in Germany earlier this month.

He’s keen to bag even more points and add to his haul of two podiums in his BhaiTech Racing car so he can try to strengthen his P8 (out of 26 drivers) in the championship standings at the 5.5km home of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“I have a little bit of experience at the track after some races there in UAE F4 and it’s definitely a cool and enjoyable place to go racing. I’m going to give it my all and see what happens,” the Parmigiani Fleurier-supported driver explained.

“I will take the same approach that I have during the last couple of rounds and do my maximum to work on my side. It would be good to end the season on a positive note and that’s definitely my target.”

The tenth and final round of the 2019 campaign will get underway with an opening qualifying session at 11.30 (local time – GMT+4) on Friday morning, the results of which will determine the grid for the opening race on the 21-turn circuit.

Uniquely, the first race of the weekend will get underway at 18.00 on Friday night, allowing Petr and his rivals to compete under Yas Marina’s extensive and atmospheric network of LED floodlights for the first time.

And with the second race starting at 13.30 on Saturday, Petr will face another new challenge as air temperatures are expected to peak at close to 40 Degrees Celsius.

“I expect it will be a weekend that’s difficult for the car set-up and the driver,” Petr predicted. “We’ll have some cooler evening racing on Friday and then some very hot temperatures on Saturday.

“Then there are some slow, tight corners and also some fast turns that are very wide. It will be pretty difficult in general – but I’m looking forward to it.”
