Petr Ptacek completed his 2020 Formula Renault Eurocup campaign at Circuit Paul Ricard this weekend, finishing both races in the south of France.
But the final round of the season was a source of disappointment for the Sauber Academy member.
A pair of below-par qualifying sessions meant Petr was unable to find the pace needed to position his MP Motorsport car within direct striking distance of the points-paying positions.
His best result was P12 during Sunday morning’s second race which brought the curtain down on a largely frustrating season for the 18-year-old.
The dominant Italian F4 Rookie Champion in 2018 and a podium finisher during his impressive Formula Renault Eurocup rookie season in 2019, Petr was hoping to continue moving forward in 2020. But the season transpired against him.
“It’s been a really difficult year and the top-end pace that I showed last year and in the Toyota Racing Series earlier this season was very hard to unlock,” he admitted. “I expected things to be very different.
“I want to win every time I go on the track and when you can’t be in that position, for whatever reason, it’s tough.”
With the ten-round season now over, Petr is looking to the future and has vowed to maximise the off season so he can bounce back positively in 2021.
“I want to sincerely thank my partners and the people that have supported me so enthusiastically during a tricky year. It’s been great to have them behind me,” the Czech driver said.
“This season has definitely taught me a lot and I know this experience will be invaluable on my journey in motorsport,” the Czech driver said.
“Every driver faces some tough moments. The important thing is how you respond to that.
“The motivation is there for me to be better and stronger in the coming years – both as a racing driver and a man.”
Petr was supported by MindMaze, Parmigiani Fleurier, DITA Eyewear, Sauber Academy, Most Autodrom, OMP, Bell Racing and Praga Cars in 2020.
