Petr completes Formula Renault testing in style
Having dominated the Italian Formula 4 Championship Rookie Cup in 2018, the 16-year-old is ready to take the next step in his career and will contest Renault Sport’s relaunched junior single-seater category with BhaiTech Racing in 2019.
Driving his brand-new Rich Energy-liveried car, Petr showed why he’s expected to be one of the Formula Renault Eurocup stars this season as he finished each of the four timed sessions in Spain’s collective test comfortably inside the top-six positions.
On the first day of the test (Tuesday) at the 4.65km track, Petr was fifth and third fastest out of 22 drivers. On Wednesday (today), he was sixth and second fastest. His best lap time during the test was a 1m 42.397s. He completed a total of 155 laps and covered 720 kilometres.
“We definitely have some decent pace and that’s really pleasing with the first races not too far away. I was consistently in the top places at Barcelona and that gives us something very solid to build on when the racing starts,” said Petr, who represents the Parmigiani Watches brand on the race track.
“The Formula Renault car is brand-new this season and there was a lot for the team and me to understand after the first couple of tests we did at Magny Cours and Paul Ricard. But everyone’s worked incredibly hard since then and we’ve made a huge improvement. I think we’re in a good position.
“If we continue working hard and I put everything together on the track, I think we have a chance of a really strong result when the racing starts at Monza.”
The iconic home of the Italian Grand Prix will host the opening round of the 10-round Formula Renault Eurocup series on 12-14 April.
